CHRISTIAN GARNETT, Recent Paintings
Kiang Gallery is pleased to present, New York based artist, Christian
Garnett in his first solo exhibition in Atlanta. The exhibition runs
through February 28.
In this exhibition, Garnett continues his inquiry into the fundamental
conditions of perception by exploring the relatiohships between flatness
and of depth and the how these perceptions are affected by light and by
color.
These luminous, seemingly monochromatic, paintings are created sans brush,
by dragging layers of paint across the panels with wide blades. The rich
color gradually fades from the intense saturation near the edges to vivid
whites in the center creating the sensation that the painting is bowing out
from the wall.
Garnett is represented in several prominent public and private collections,
including the Aldrich Museum of Contemporary Art, the Milwaukee Museum of
Art, the Auckland Museum of Art, Chapel Hill, North Carolina . Currently he
is teaching at the School of Visual Arts in New York.
